Abstract

The aim of this paper is to summarize and to comment about the text which Philumenus of Alexandria collects about rabies in the first chapters of his treatise De venenatis animalibus eorumque remediis. After a very short review of the literary precedents about this topic, the author analyzes the pharmacologic, chirurgical and dietetic remedies, highlighting the work of Philumenus as the main source on rabies for the authors of the forthcoming centuries.
