Areté en los héroes cómicos de Los caballeros y La paz de Aristófanes

Over time, there have been many observations have been formulated about the behavior and the figure of heroes in the epic and tragic genres, in order to study social, ethical and political composition in Greece, so as to obtain a response of what might have been human nature as conceived by Greeks at different times. However, these observations on the heroic figure do not include the classic comic hero because his structure does not contain any components of cunning, as in epic; or any ethical components, as in tragedy. The arete and pedagogical position of the hero of comedy was thus neglected. To fill this void, this paper will study the ethos and the arete of the heroes of Aristophanes’ comedies The Knights and Peace, in order to analyze the constitution of the heroic structure as action and significance of a paideia at the service of the restructuring of ethical and social values in fifth-century B. C. Athens.
