Recreational economic valuation of Rincón del Tigre in the Integrated Natural Management Área Rincón del Tigre and Cajones

The economic valuation through the individual travel cost method measures the willingness of a visitor to pay for consuming a natural good that has no market price. Their preference allows estimating a monetary value for its indirect use.
This study seeks to estimate the recreational value of Rincón del Tigre as a key attraction within the Integrated Natural Management Area Rincón del Tigre and Cajones, applying the individual travel cost method. To achieve this objective, the socioeconomic profile of visitors and their patterns of site use were systematically analyzed.
According to records and analysis of the information, adult visitors predominate (65%), and most come from Caranavi (31%), El Alto (27%), and La Paz (25%). Visitors rated the conservation of the site at 86%. Overall satisfaction was rated at 98% (3.7 average on the Likert scale).
The average consumer surplus found is estimated at 200 local monetary units, equivalent to USD 29.89, for the recreational enjoyment value in the Rincón del Tigre integrated management area. Considering the annual number of visitors (1,725), the result is Bs 345,000.00 per year, corresponding to the recreation and general enjoyment surplus of consumers at this attraction. Taking into account the entrance fee per visitor of Bs 10, the site generates an approximate annual net income of Bs 17,250, not including vehicle parking use.
