Permanent Call for Reviewers

Strengthening RILTA’s Quality and International Reach)

RILTA permanently invites researchers, university faculty members, and professionals with relevant academic and professional expertise to join its reviewer database. The participation of external, expert, and independent reviewers is essential to ensuring the quality, rigor, transparency, and credibility of scholarly publishing.

Through this permanent call, RILTA seeks to build a broad, diverse, and specialized community of reviewers who can contribute to the continuous strengthening of its peer-review processes and to the development of editorial standards aligned with good scholarly publishing practices and the quality criterio required for the journal’s progressive inclusion in recognized academic databases and indexing services.

Objectives of the Permanent Call

This call aims to:

• Establish and maintain an up-to-date database of specialized reviewers.
• Expand the availability of experts in the various thematic and methodological areas within RILTA’s scope.
• Strengthen the quality, rigor, and impartiality of the peer-review process.
• Facilitate the selection of reviewers based on the alignment between their expertise and the characteristics of each manuscript.
• Promote diverse academic participation in terms of areas of expertise, institutions, countries, and language competencies.
• Contribute to strengthening RILTA’s editorial practices and advancing its alignment with international standards of scholarly publishing.

Joining the reviewer database does not imply the automatic assignment of manuscripts. Invitations will be issued based on the relevance of the reviewer’s expertise to the manuscript, their availability, and the absence of conflicts of interest.

Who Can Apply?

RILTA welcomes applications from professionals with academic or research experience in áreas related to the journal’s scope who are able to provide rigorous, objective, and constructive evaluations.

The following qualifications and experience will be particularly valued:

• Academic training and research experience in theoretical linguistics, applied linguistics, language teaching and learning, and related fields.
• Experience in research and/or academic publishing.
• Knowledge of research methodologies relevant to the area of expertise.
• Previous experience reviewing scholarly articles, preferably for academic journals.
• The ability to evaluate manuscripts objectively, critically, and respectfully.
• A commitment to the principles of academic integrity, confidentiality, and ethics in scholarly publishing.
• Availability to meet the deadlines established by the editorial team.

RILTA particularly welcomes specialists with expertise in areas such as applied linguistics, language pedagogy, theoretical linguistics, assessment, educational research, and other fields related to the journal’s scope.

RILTA accepts manuscripts in Spanish, English, French, Aymara, Quechua, and Guarani. Accordingly, proficiency in conducting academic reviews in one or more of these languages will also be valued.

What Does It Mean to Be a RILTA Reviewer?

Selected reviewers will participate in the journal’s double-blind peer-review process. Depending on the alignment between their profile and the characteristics of a given manuscript, they may be invited to evaluate submissions according to the criteria established by RILTA.

Key responsibilities include:

• Maintaining strict confidentiality regarding manuscripts and information related to the editorial process.
• Evaluating manuscripts objectively, independently, rigorously, and constructively.
• Declaring any actual, potential, or perceived conflict of interest before accepting a review invitation.
• Evaluating manuscripts according to RILTA’s established criteria and the type of submission being reviewed.
• Providing clear, well-founded feedback that contributes to improving the quality of the manuscript.
• Meeting agreed-upon deadlines or promptly informing the editorial team of any difficulty in doing so.
• Refraining from using confidential information obtained during the review process for personal or professional benefit.

Reviewers’ recommendations constitute an essential input into the editorial evaluation process. The final decision to accept, request revisions to, or reject a manuscript rests with the RILTA Editorial Team.

What Does RILTA Offer Its Reviewers?

By joining the RILTA reviewer community, participants will have the opportunity to:

• Contribute to strengthening research and scholarly publishing in linguistics and related fields.
• Participate in an academic process that promotes the quality, integrity, and rigor of research.
• Receive a formal invitation for each review process for which they are selected.
• Receive a certificate of participation for completed reviews, in accordance with the journal’s policies.
• Receive institutional recognition for their academic contribution, when applicable.
• Join RILTA’s reviewer database for future review opportunities, subject to their authorization.

How to Apply

Interested individuals may request joining the RILTA reviewer database by submitting the following information:

1. Full name.
2. Institutional affiliation and country.
3. Contact email address.
4. ORCID iD.
5. Main areas of expertise and keywords.
6. Languages in which they can conduct academic reviews.
7. A brief description of their research and/or experience reviewing scholarly articles.
8. An academic CV, preferably in PDF format.

The information provided will be used to establish and maintain the RILTA reviewer database. Inclusion in the database will be subject to the evaluation and validation of the applicant’s profile by the Editorial Team.

Next Steps

Once the information has been received, the Editorial Team will review the applicant’s academic profile and areas of expertise. When there is a match between a reviewer’s profile and the characteristics of a manuscript, RILTA may send a formal invitation to participate in the evaluation process.

Invited reviewers may accept or decline each review request based on their availability and expertise. Before accepting a review assignment, they must confirm that they have no conflict of interest that could compromise their impartiality.
